BIGBANG is YG Entertainment’s first idol group which was debuted on August 2006. The members are G-Dragon (or Kwon Ji-young), Taeyang (or Dong Young-bae), T.O.P (or Choi Seung-hyun), Seungri (or Lee Seung-hyun), and Daesung (or Kang Dae-sung).
Before debuting as BIGBANG, most members have been involved in the music/entertainment industry. G-Dragon joined a group called “Little Roora” and was already rapping back then; Taeyang took part in JinuSean MV ‘A-Yo’; T.O.P was an underground rapper called Tempo, and Seungri was a member of a group that received the Guang Joo Culture Daesang award. Daesung did not have such background because having a dream as a singer was against his family wishes.
BIGBANG is often cited as one of the most influential groups in the K-Pop industry and is referred to as “Kings of K-Pop” by the media. They are known for maintaining tight control over their career as they involve in the production of their music and songwriting (as lyricist, composer, and producer), not like many Korean idol groups.
They are praised by their stage presences during live performances either it’s their own concerts or not. Here’s one of my favorites.
Moreover, they are also the first idol group that has an idea for the light stick, called Bang Bong. G-Dragon designed it by himself for V.I.Ps, fans of BIGBANG!

Up to 2018, they have released 88 songs as a group and 13 songs as sub-units. They are also active as soloists (and as an actor for T.O.P!) and have 151 solo songs in total. Here are my most favorites from each year:
- 2006: La-La-La (from 2nd Single: BIGBANG Is V.I.P)
- 2007: Lies (from 1st Mini Album: Always)
- 2008: Haru Haru (from 3rd Mini Album: Stand Up)
- 2009: Koewokikasete (from Japan 3rd Single: Koewokikasete)
- 2010: Tell Me Goodbye (from Japan 4th Single: Tell Me Goodbye)
- 2011: Love Song (from Special Edition Album)
- 2012: Still Alive (Special Edition: Still Alive) – I have a lot of songs in this year so I will choose the most underrated one.
- 2015: If You (from Made Series (D))
- 2016: Fxxk It (from Made The Full Album)
- 2018: Flower Road.
They have one of the largest fans-base in the world and they are the first Korean artist who has their own Youtube channel (created in October 2005) with more than 11M subscriber and 5 billion views.
If you enjoy watching BIGBANG, I will suggest looking for their movie and other variety shows that they have appeared (the shows do not always include five of them). I mostly enjoy when they were in Radio Star, Happy Together, Weekly Idol, Strong Heart, Infinite Challange, and Running Man.
